Where can I order? — Koentinius 2012/07/11 03:45

Areas of research:
1. Timeline in memorial hall (best timeline available but could be improved, should be point from which we organize the histories)
2. Wiki material (flesh out the timeline, correct errors)
3. Interviews with historical figures (use multiple sources to build a more objective view)
4. Archaeological research on old and current maps (valuable search for lost histories)
A set of volumes could comprise an age, and the collection of ages comprises the Histories. Volumes are organized in no way, they are necessary due to character limits in the books. The Histories should be held to something of an objective standard, and state factual events as they occurred. Separate histories covering the detailed history of specific nations or events, or analysis and commentary, could be created as supplements but should not be included in this project as part of the collection that make up the Histories
What do you think? The first thing that would be useful is to copy everything from memorial hall in chronological order into one file.
Any organizational issues?
How will the contents of each age be organized, will there be an index or timeline at the beginning? How detailed will the infos be?

oh dog this is so ebin
What's the character limit for each book?
I agree, specific events warrant their own editions (June 14th riots and the implications, etc). Can't wait.
Contents should be chronological obviously, but sub-sections of different ages don't necessarily have to be named, they can just be numbered..

I would be glad to help with certain events — green kitten 2012/07/14 21:11
I believe the limit is 256 characters per page, 13 lines per page, 50 pages each book. The title is a 16 character limit so it needs to be kept short. Perhaps the subtitle including the age and volume number could be written into the 1st page. Maybe including an index. The last page is reserved for credits perhaps.
Yeah, the contents of different ages can just be named something like “The Histories: Age of X, Volume IV” for each volume.
Everyone may help. If you have nothing to contribute due to newness you can always do archaeological research. I'd like for research to begin before the update is released, so that we can put out a quality product. It could be a server project.
Also while I have a lot of books in storage now would be a good time to mass produce them and bookshelves as theya re more expensive next update. Battx can provide feathers and books for the project, but we have very few ink sacs.

So that's about five double spaced pages in word per book. That's a fucking lot. We're going to have to decide how much we want to include per book– We could just write until we fill up a book or (I vote) we divide up the server's history and then just write as much as we can on each section and if we don't fill up a book or if we use 5 books, such cases.
We could set up a dropbox account if we want to be serious about this and upload word documents there and we can get some monk to just transcribe them in game. We also need to decide exactly how we want to divide up the the timeline and the format we want to write in, like Sik said.
I suggest something along the lines of the following:
Title
Volume
Map
Age
Part (if applicable)
Example:
The Unabridged History of [what the shit is the name of this server?]
Volume XI
Oceania
The Age of Renaissance
Part II
Perhaps special events could warrant their own volume or perhaps a seperate, unaffiliated book and that book could be cited? Let me know what you guys think. –vlad
